Camp Salubria on July 17 was a day packed with fun activities!
The bright sunshine drenched the greenery of Salubria while the kids soaked up as much fun as could be had in a day. Stories were read to them about the infamous pirate Blackbeard and his nemesis Governor Spotswood. The kids learned about Spotswood’s role in bringing an end to the dastardly deeds of that pirate.
Pirates and the pirate life was the focus of learning that day with the children creating pirate hats, painting pirate bandanas, assembling a pirate mosaic, and playing the always popular “pin the eyepatch on the pirate.”
Armed with a new understanding of the pirate life, the children practiced a skit based on Blackbeard's demise at the hands of Governor Spotswood. Their theatrical abilities were put on display later in the day at the Banquet and Auction much to the delight of the adults who were fortunate enough to view this delightful addition to the evening's agenda.
As one of the children, Catherine Fishback, stated: “it was fun to act like a pirate!”
In addition to the pirate life, thanks to Leta, the kids were also able to do some horseback riding and explore the grounds of Salubria, the colonial home of the Widow Spotswood.
