Apollo 11 Astronaut Buzz Aldrin, a Germanna/Germantown descendant, would be proud to have you explore the heavens from his ancestral home!

In about 1719, the ancestors of Buzz Aldrin and other members of the first Germanna colony removed from Germanna to a tract called Germantown (in what later became Fauquier County).

At 10:00 AM, meet at the Graffiti House of the Brandy Station Foundation, 19484 Brandy Road, Brandy Station, VA 22714 for a memorable driving tour to give you a deeper sense of the history in Germanna Country. The tour begins with a discussion of the Union river-crossing at Kelly's Ford, and then follows the route of march of the Union cavalry division commanded by Colonel Alfred Napoleon Duffie, a deserter from the French army, to Stevensburg (the Germanna Foundation's Salubria is nearby).

A Symposium celebrating German-American partnerships in green building at the German Embassy in Washington DC, marking the 40th anniversary of Earth Day as part of the Transatlantic Climate Bridge Initiative.

Meet world-renowned authorities on green building Herbert Dreiseitl, Stefan Behnisch, Michael Braungart and William McDonough, as well as local experts, who will speak about:
- Green Building in the USA as a global market force
- German perspectives on sustainability and green building
- Business opportunities for German-American companies, today and in the future

Governor McDonnell is seeking over 4,000 individuals to serve on the Commonwealth of Virginia's boards and commissions. All qualified and service-minded Virginians are encouraged to participate in the government of our Commonwealth by offering to serve on a board or commission, or by recommending qualified candidates. Many of the members of the Germanna Foundation have had a 300-year head start on being acquainted with Virginia's needs, and would make excellent candidates. The deadline for submitting your resume and responding to some on-line questions is April 22, 2010.

The most memorable speech of the Cold War, it bolstered the morale of West Berliners and steeled the resolve of the West not to lose another square inch of territory to Communist tyranny. In November, the Germanna Foundation joined with friends around the world to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. Come see the National Capitol Squadron of the Commemorative Air Force at the Regional Airport in Brandy Station, 12499 Beverly Ford Rd., Brandy Station. The National Capitol Squadron and Museum will be open and visitors can enjoy tours, explore aircraft and watch a WWII reenactment. Visit the hangar/museum building equipped for the maintenance and display of a fleet of aircraft known as the Ghost Squadron. A WWII Reconnaissance Fighting Vehicle known as a Ferret, and a YAK 7B WWII fighter will also be on display. War Bird rides will be for sale.

The Northern Virginia Astronomy Club invites the public to Astronomy Day at Sky Meadows State Park on 24 April 2010. Come out at 3PM to observe the Sun! Stay until nightfall to see some planets and deep sky objects! Who knows - maybe the young person you bring will follow in the footsteps of Apollo 11 Astronaut Buzz Aldrin, a Germanna Rector family descendant.

Little Fork Church (16461 Oak Shade Rd Rixeyville, VA) and The Society for the Preservation of Culpeper History invite you to an authentic 18th century Anglican church service in the oldest colonial church in the area! In place of the traditional 11:00 am service, Reverend William E. Eberle will be officiating an authentic 18th century service in period dress. Join us for tours of beautiful Little Fork Church, along with Brunswick stew directly following the service.

May 1 is observed as Loyalty Day in the United States. It is a day set aside for the reaffirmation of loyalty to the United States and for the recognition of the heritage of American freedom. By an Act of Congress, Loyalty Day was made an official holiday on July 18, 1958 (Public Law 85-529).
