John Blankenbaker discusses the writing of Germanna Record #18
When I was asked to write a book on the Second Germanna Colony, I was aware of some of the potential problems. I knew I would not make a dime; it would be a labor of love. It would be hard work. There would be frustrations. I probably would not have enough time.
Yet, I did succumb. I felt that the story had been poorly told up to then. I was aware of more that could be said or where it could be improved. I was aware because I had published Beyond Germanna for fifteen years where a lot of new information had been reported.

The Germanna Foundation is seeking scholarly articles on Germanna related topics. These topics may have a particular Germanna individual as their focus or historical events that affected the Germanna ancestors. Articles must be source referenced and may include photos or other documents as might be related to the topic. Articles that meet these requirements may be chosen for publication on the Germanna website as premium content for members. Proposed articles should be submitted to foundation@germanna.org

Former Germanna Community College President Dies
Staff and Contributed Reports Arnold E. Wirtala, founding president of Germanna Community College, died Tuesday at his home in Fredericksburg. He was 85. Wirtala, whose tenure spanned from 1969 to 1980, shepherded the college through periods of lean enrollment, uncertainty and controversy. Today, GCC serves nearly 13,000 students and seven counties.

Culpeper Minute Men Feature Marc Wheat at Annual Meeting
The Culpeper Minute Men Chapter of the Virginia Society of the Sons of the American Revolution enjoyed an address by Germanna President Marc Wheat on November 15, 2008 at their annual awards meeting and installation of new officers. Marc was able to promote good relations between Germanna and the Culpeper Minute Men as he socialized with the incoming and outgoing officers as well as those receiving awards.
