Just how old is this building?

Thanks to a new study, the community will soon learn more about the origins of Salubria, an 18th century Georgian-style house located off of Route 3.

Dr. Dan Miles, a British archaeologist, took wood samples to gauge Salubria's real age.

A study of wood from Salubria shows that the home of Gov. Alexander Spotswood's widow was built earlier than many historians thought.

This recessed staircase indicates that Salubria may have ties to Thomas Jefferson, who popularized the design.

The Orange County Historical Society will host a July 26 picnic at Spotswood Park in Lake of the Woods. Nearby was the site of "Orange Grove," the home of Capt. John and his wife Sarah Rowsie Spotswood. A grandson of royal Lt. Gov. Alexander Spotswood, Capt. The Germanna Foundation arranged to be an exhibitor at the Southern California Genealogical Society Jamboree from June 11-13. Many people were introduced to Germanna for the first time while the Germanna Foundation made a positive impression on all who attended.
