Prying into Salubria's past (The Free Lance-Star, Fredericksburg, VA, July 18, 2010)

Prying into Salubria's past
July 18, 2010 12:35 am
The Free Lance-Star, Fredericksburg, VA

Dr. Dan Miles, a British archaeologist, took wood samples to gauge Salubria's real age.

A study of wood from Salubria shows that the home of Gov. Alexander Spotswood's widow was built earlier than many historians thought.

This recessed staircase indicates that Salubria may have ties to Thomas Jefferson, who popularized the design.

By MICHAEL ZITZ

Tree rings might seem to be exciting only to termites.
